The most important raw material for making stringed and plucked string instruments is wood. Of the wood depends the quality and consequently, the value of an instrument. Only certain kinds of wood with specific characteristics are suitable for making instruments, thats why we talk of "tonewood"
As far back as 1905 Anton Gleissner dedicated himself to this tonewood, setting up a tonewood business in the violin makers city of Schönbach.
In 1933 his son Andreas Gleissner took over the firm, which had an excellent fame with stringed and plucked string instrument makers.
In 1953 the Andreas Gleissner Company came to Bubenreuth passing by Eltersdorf. Since 1965 Manfred Gleissner continued running the business for more than four decades. Stefan Gleissner, who joined the company in 1994, today represents the fourth generation running the business.
The Andreas Gleissner OHG supplies tonewood for stringed instruments, focussing solely on European woods, mainly spruce and maple. Before leaving the house for subsequent processing the wood is being airdried and allowed to season for years.
Experiences and special knowledge concerning purchase, processing and storage that have been gathered for generations, as well as the use of modern technology are the basis for the constantly high quality of the tonewood from the house of Gleissner.
You can order by telephone, mail, fax or e-mail. After placing an order you will receive our proforma invoice with all necessary details.
The minimum order value is EUR 200.-
If you visit our company to select your wood in our warehouse there is no minimum amount.
Payment in advance by bank transfer. Any bank charges we incur will be billed to the customer's account. Until further notice we don't accept credit cards.
Smaller orders are dispatched by UPS. All shipping costs are billed to the customer's account. For larger shipments we cooperate with several shipping companies. Shipping costs are inquired individually for each shipment. Packaging is billed at cost price.
When you place an order, please specify whether you have a Value Added Tax ID number. If you have a VAT ID number, you don't have to pay German VAT (currently 19%)
All delivered goods remain the property of Andreas Gleissner OHG until all due payments resulting from our association with the buyer are made in full (if checks or bills of exchange are given as payment, until they have cleared). Before goods are paid in full they may not be transferred to third parties, nor given as security.
